You can learn how to rack up winning numbers to build a more lucrative business from tennis legend, Roger Federer.

And the lesson can be summarized in one word: Focus.

Much like how Federer keeps his eye on the ball from the point of contact with his racquet to where he wants it to go, you can do the same to grow your business when you focus on your numbers.

(Because as someone once famously said, “What gets measured gets managed.”)

“But Patty, there are so many numbers, how do I choose which ones to measure?”

I’m glad you asked.

Keep it simple and focus on the big three numbers that are going to help you in your business, based on the following criteria.

  1. Impact: What’s going to have the biggest impact in your business? Can you identify low-hanging fruit?
  2. Alignment: What is in alignment with your company goals, your mission and your values? When your numbers are in alignment with your goals, you’ll go farther faster and have a bigger result. Or as I like to say: Alignment = Velocity
  3. Degree of Difficulty (DOD):  How easily can you get the number in hand that could have the greatest impact on your business on whatever frequency you need: daily, weekly or monthly?

Just as Federer’s unwavering focus on the tennis court led to record-breaking titles, your unwavering focus on your big three numbers will help you pave the path toward a more lucrative business.
