How much do you trust other people with running your calendar?
Sometimes, they’re better at it than you are.
The Overscheduling Trap
You tend to overbook yourself. I do it too. And it’s not pretty. I don’t leave enough time for myself or for the deep work that needs space to breathe.
The calendar is packed so tight there’s no room for the unexpected.
And that’s when you miss out.
There are people and opportunities trying to find you. People who can drop some serious knowledge, who can help you get where you really want to go.
But you’re stuck in what I call the prevention department because you’re overscheduled.
When “Bob” Shows Up
Here’s a real example. A friend said, “You really need to talk to Bob.”
Now, I don’t know Bob. But she knows Bob, and he’s a high-trust person in her world.
I could’ve said, “Hey, my calendar’s full. I can’t see daylight for two months.” That’s prevention. That’s blocking something incredible before it even has a chance to happen.
Or I could say, “Whoa, that could be cool.”
And that’s what I did.
Trust Other People’s Gut
When my friend offered to make the introduction, I said absolutely. Because if someone I trust thinks I should talk to someone they value, I’m going to trust their gut.
Sure, I trust my own instincts. But here’s the kicker: people in our circles are often looking out for us, even when we’re not aware of it.
So we scheduled the call a couple of weeks later. And let me tell you, some big, important stuff got dropped in that conversation. Stuff that’s going to help me with what’s next.
“What’s next” for me is a passion project—completely different from what I’m doing now. To make it happen, I need:
- Insights
- Accountability
- Support
- Way-showers
I’ve never done this before, so I need people who can show me what’s possible and remind me that I can do it. Actually, I know I can.
But it’s powerful to have others believe it too.
Make Space for What’s Next
Don’t let your calendar become a fortress that keeps out the very connections that could change everything.
Leave room for the unexpected Bob.
The conversation you didn’t plan for.
The connection that might just open your next chapter.
Trust me and trust the people who want to introduce you to their Bobs.
Your future self will thank you.
